TRAIL – Transition to Accessible and Inclusive Learning
TRAIL (2023–2025) is a European cooperation project coordinated by blinc e.G., aiming to make adult learning mobilities more accessible and inclusive for disadvantaged learners. While Erasmus+ mobility opportunities have expanded to include adult learners, people with disabilities or fewer opportunities remain heavily underrepresented. TRAIL addresses this gap by developing data-driven strategies, practical tools, and capacity-building activities to make KA1 mobility actions more inclusive and impactful.
Through an alliance of six experienced partner organisations across Europe, TRAIL builds a community of practice for inclusive mobility, combining innovative training formats, research, digital tools, and pilot activities with diverse target groups. The project is the first of its kind to build a comprehensive infrastructure for inclusive KA1 learning mobility in adult education.
Project Duration: 01.11.2023 – 31.10.2025
Funding Programme: Erasmus+ KA220 – Cooperation Partnerships in Adult Education

Project Activities
TRAIL’s main goal is to enable adult education organisations to offer and manage inclusive learning mobilities for learners who face physical, mental, or social disadvantages. In doing so, the project supports the European Commission’s goal of increasing participation and accessibility in lifelong learning.
To this end, TRAIL develops a continuing professional development (CPD) programme for staff in sending and hosting organisations, combining methods such as Design-Based Collaborative Learning (DBCL) and Competence-Oriented Learning and Validation (COL&V). These methods help professionals create engaging, inclusive, and meaningful learning experiences abroad.
In parallel, the project collects pan-European data on the barriers and needs of disadvantaged learners and organisations. The insights feed into a matching platform that connects mobility stakeholders, shares good practices, and hosts a digital exhibition of inclusive mobility journeys and tools.
The project’s long-term ambition is to contribute to a European-wide system of quality assurance, competence validation, and cooperation in the field of inclusive adult learning mobility.
